Something's Brewing on Heathfield High Street!
Two Tails Taproom is coming home...
After 2 years of pop-ups, pints, and building a community one gathering at a time, Two Tails is putting down roots at 37 High Street, Heathfield - and we can't wait to welcome you in.
In our own words...
Heathfield has been asking for this. And honestly? So have we.
We're Deena and Colin Gilham, and since June 2024 we've been bringing Two Tails to our community as a monthly pop-up.
Every single time, people have told us the same thing: this town wants this, and this town needs this. That kept us going, and it's what made us take the leap to make it permanent.
Come and find us, the door is always open!
Deena & Colin
Our Journey So far...
It started simply: a shared love of great drinks, local producers, and a kind of gathering space that's increasingly hard to find.
Since we made Heathfield our home in 2022, Two Tails has grown from an idea into one of the town's best-loved traditions.
Since June 2024, we've been running a monthly pop-up at Union Church, pouring the best of Sussex beer, wine, cider, spirits and more - and getting to know the people who make this town what it is. What began as a small gathering has become a fixture on the local calendar, shaped every step of the way by the people of Heathfield: their feedback, their enthusiasm, their loyalty, and their belief that this town deserves something genuinely its own.
Business owners, councillors, regulars and first-timers have all said the same thing: Two Tails fills a gap Heathfield didn't even know how to name. A third space. Somewhere that isn't home, isn't work, and isn't a traditional pub - but feels more like belonging than any of those things.
Now, with overwhelming support from the people of Heathfield, we're taking the next step. Two Tails is opening its doors permanently - and becoming Heathfield's, and Wealden's, very first micropub.
About Your Hosts...
We're Deena and Colin Gilham, two avid micropub enthusiasts who fell for Heathfield the moment we arrived in 2022. What started as a passion project has become a genuine labour of love - built one gathering at a time, and one relationship at a time with the local producers who fill our taps.
For us, this has never just been about pouring drinks. It's about creating a space where neighbours become friends, where local, independent producers get the spotlight they deserve, and where the whole community has somewhere to belong.
The thought of opening Two Tails' permanent home, and being able to connect with local people every week while showcasing an incredible range of local producers, gives us such a buzz. We honestly can't wait.
The Story Behind Our Name...
Every Two Tails story starts with two very special dogs: Cookie and Flossie, our beloved Yorkie-crosses, who joined us as rescues in 2016 and 2020.
So different, yet so great together, they brought us endless happiness and joy, and a lifetime of memories - and it's that feeling we wanted to share with the world when we started Two Tails.
Sadly, Cookie and Flossie are no longer with us but the memory of our beautiful Brand Ambassadors lives on through Two Tails, in every wagging tail that comes through our door.
What is a Micropub?
A micropub - or taproom, or alehouse, call it what you like - is a small, independent, drink-led space whose ethos is centred around simplicity, friendship, community, and independent quality products.
No fruit machines. No blaring music. No mass-produced drinks, no pressure to drink alcohol if that's not your thing. Just one room, intimate and community-first, with a genuinely warm welcome for everyone who walks through the door.
We'll be the first of our kind in Heathfield - and in the whole of Wealden!
Our Ethos...
From day one, we've built Two Tails around one simple idea: champion the local.
Everything we pour comes from local, independent producers. Real ales and craft beers, natural wines, carefully selected spirits, proper ciders, and a genuinely considered range of non-alcoholic options, because a great drink experience shouldn't depend on alcohol.
We work with an ever-growing family of producers, almost all of which are right here in Sussex - people who care as deeply about what they make as we do about what we serve. Every product on our bar has a person, a place and a story behind it, and we love sharing those stories with the people who walk through our door.
Supporting local isn't a trend for us. It's in our DNA.
Dog friendly. Family friendly. Community first. That's us.
A New Home, an Old Favourite...
Our new permanent home at 37 High Street - once an independent womenswear boutique - is being transformed into a warm, welcoming space for Heathfield to gather, any day of the week. More than just a new address, it's a permanent base for everything we already do best: connecting people, championing local producers, and giving this town the third space it's been asking for.
We're hugely grateful to everyone who has supported us on this journey - from our regulars at Union Church to the local groups, businesses and charities already keen to get involved, to everyone who took the time to back our plans.
The Wait is Almost Over!
